State University New York Purchase - Design and Society
The designed environment: topics at the intersection of graphic design and architecture 设计专业课主题:平面设计与建筑设计的交汇 This concentration looks at elemental concepts in how our visual landscape is designed - from two-dimensional graphic design to occupied space. Design is approached from two important periods - modernism and the grid, and postmodernism and the visual vernacular. 该课程主要从基本概念上讲解如何设计视觉景观-从二维平面设计到使用空间。该课程从两个重要时期展开讲解设计 – 分别是现代主义和网格时期,后现代主义和视觉白话时期。 Participants will work individually and in groups on both research and observations of design, but also create interventions - physical and digital projects which aim to deepen our understanding of design and our surroundings. A variety of digital and analog tools and methods will be employed. The projects will culminate in a gallery installation on campus. 学生将以个人和小组的形式参与设计研究和观察,同时通过对平面与数字化项目的碰撞式交互学习,以加深对设计与周边环境的理解。该项目将用到多种数字和模拟工具与方法,在校园内的画廊完成安装。
Queens College - Design One
The visual expression of ideas is vitally important to their
clear understanding.
In a world dominated by 24/7 media, advertising and
enterntainment, what messages do we see in the
presentation of nations both in the direct language (de
notative messaging) but also in the visual forms (connotative
messaging).
In this course the group will identify values that we agree to
be universal, and find a visual form for those values.
Queens College / City University New York: Typography One
Victor Hugo once wrote that the written word is the primary reflection of modern culture.
If this is true, what role does the designer/typographer play in
contemporary culture? In the global economy? In your own
daily life?
Can you remember the last time your were frustrated trying to
read text? Especially pleased? Why?
What do the emergence of emojis say about our current
cultural climate? Does this mark a shift (back) towards
pictographic communication?
How did we become too busy to type entire words?
What does the term long read tell us about current cultural
preferences?
Although much evidence points to the contrary, there remains
a need for legible and careful typography.
This course is concerned with the craft of the written word;
typography.
Parsons The New School - Portfolio and Process
After several decades of rapid flux, how might we picture the current working landscape of graphic design?
What do post-internet era designers actually do?
How do design practices look to their publics?
These questions were proposed as research springboards for the Portfolio & Process course at Parsons Art, Media, and Technology department of Graphic Design in New York City, Spring 2017.
